Everyday habits can have a powerful effect on health—from how we move and sleep to how we eat and use substances.
In this course, drawing on content from Richard Straub, you’ll explore the psychology behind several major health behaviors and risks. You’ll examine how exercise, sleep, and injury prevention influence physical and psychological well-being, including the effects of physical activity on the brain, memory, and mood. You’ll also investigate nutrition, weight, obesity, and eating disorders, considering how food choices, food insecurity, mental health, social media, and body image can shape health outcomes. From there, you’ll explore substance use, abuse, and addiction, including models of addiction and health concerns related to opioids, alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, and marijuana.
