There are 3 modules in this course

Before you hand two servers to a colleague, they should match their written specification, and you should be able to prove it. In this module you work from the records of a small company’s estate: a Linux server that runs the online storefront and a Windows server that shares the company’s files. You read what each check showed and mark twenty-nine statements true or false. Then you trace every gap to the setting that causes it and plan the smallest change that closes each one. You try those changes in a browser sandbox, and confirm the result against records taken after the work. You finish with a configuration and access summary, the first part of your operations handoff pack: a work sample another administrator could pick up and trust.

A colleague taking over a server needs more than a correct configuration. They need to hear when it stops behaving normally, and they need to trust that its routine chores run by themselves. In this module you work from the records of the company's storefront server: a week of its processor readings, its application log, and the nightly script that archives that log. You state what normal looks like for this server, find the one hour that departs from it, and write an alert that fires on that hour and not on the server's ordinary busy nights. Then you follow the nightly job through three nights, see where it fails without saying so, and write the exact lines that make it stop at a failed step, repeat safely and leave a dated record. A browser sandbox lets you try both ideas before you write. You finish with the monitoring and automation evidence, the next part of your operations handoff pack.

A colleague taking over a set of servers inherits only what you write down. In this module you diagnose two faults on the company's storefront server from its records, and then assemble everything you have written about the estate into one Operations Handoff Pack. The first fault is a connection that worked and now fails: you read five tests that each cross a different set of links along its path, find the one link that every failing test crosses and no passing test does, and trace the break to one line in a file. The second is a nightly job that stopped: you read its own record, find what stopped it, and follow a repair that applies a decision someone else owns. A browser sandbox lets you move a break along the connection's path and watch which tests still pass. You write each diagnosis as a runbook entry, draw the estate as you hand it over, and finish with a documented, end-to-end work sample another operator could pick up tomorrow.
